Missions and objectives

Mauj is a Syrian non-profit organisation that started its activities in 2014 under
the name of “Radio Souriat*” and adopted by resolution NO.9 on 29 June 2020.
Mauj is community-based and is led by women and governed by feminist
principles. The board consists of 5 women, while the executive teams consist of
14 people (10 women – 4 men) spread across Syria’s different regions.
Radio Souriat*
was the first feminist internet radio in Syria, dealing with social problems from a
feminist viewpoint and working to uphold,
protect women’s rights. The role of Radio Souriat has grown to carry out
community-based projects on the ground. As such Radio Souriat now operates
under Mauj, a newly licensed local organization, and the radio is one of its
key programmes.
Mauj is working in a participatory manner to address community development
using both approaches of community-based work and production and
dissemination of media content.
Mauj has a community center that is a secure civic shared space for women
and youth. A substantial part of this center’s work is holding social and cultural
events tackling issues faced by women and girls’ and advocating and raising
awareness on their rights with the aim to establish a women empowering
movement in Syria.

Main Activities
