The Al Fanar Foundation, based in Spain, was founded in 2012 as a non-profit organisation with an extensive network and wealth of experience in North Africa and the Middle East. It seeks to build bridges of understanding and strengthen relationships between Europe and the aforementioned regions by focusing on three specific areas: translation, social education and analysis. Translating the Arabic press in to Spanish provides a greater understanding of the region byopening up firsthand native Arabic sources to non-Arabic speaking readers. Similarly, Al Fanar translates literary and graphic materials, in particular comic books, that may be understood as tools for social change, to break with stereotypes and to better understand alternative realities. These translations usually serve as an important starting point for the educational and social projects undertaken by Al Fanar that seek to advance towards a more inclusive society. |
