Main Activities

Hala is an Egyptian published novelist and short stories writer, her bibliography includes two books of short stories (published in 2018 and 2021) and two novels . Her books were selected and nominated for several awards, including the second prize in Cairo Short Stories competition by Goethe Institut (2015) and the long list for the short stories category by Sawiris Foundation (2021).
Hala is also a screenwriter, her first movie script (Sky Like) won the best short movie award from the Mediterranean Countries Film Festival in 2016. Her second script (Sweet Corn) won a production grant from Bibliotheca Alexandrina in the same year. Her first feature film screenplay (Ants Valley) was shortlisted for the screenplay awards by Sawiris Foundation in 2016. Hala is currently co-writing the screenplay for another feature film based on her first novel.

Hala originally studied Interior Design, earning her BA in 2006. After working for a while as an Interior Designer, she decided to pursue her passion in creative writing, so she studied at Jesuit Film School (2015), Mass for Contemporary Arts (2016) and CILAC for Liberal Arts (2020). She also participated in several programs and workshops related to creative writing, screenwriting and moviemaking.
