Missions and objectives

Teranim Centre for Popular Arts is an independent cultural institution founded in 2014. It is concerned with reviving the Mauritanian folklore, which is subjected to extinction, it focuses on the culture and arts of the decedents of the former slaves in order to reexamine it and its practitioners through the approach of art in the service of rights, for building a diverse Mauritanian society able to live together culturally and interested in arts.
General goals:
• Contribute to the preservation and sustainability of folklore, and empower its practitioners of their rights.
• Motivating young people to return to the intangible cultural heritage and strengthening the cultural and social role of women.
• Working on teaching folk arts, and making them able to keep pace with cultural and social changes.
